New Design and Development Certificate

The Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) faculty is pleased to announce the launch of newly designed Certificate in Instructional Design and Technology.  This completely online certificate consists of two tracks—one in Educational Technology, and one in Design and Development. The D&D track is described below:

Design and Development Track

We designed this sequence of four courses for instructional designers and developers who work in non-education related settings such as business, government, military, and health care. The four (completely online) required courses are:

  1. IDT 7070: Instructional Design Process I
  2. IDT 7080: Instructional Design Process II
  3. IDT 7090:  Developing Learning Environments I
  4. IDT 7063: Seminar in Instructional Computing

If you complete the Certificate, you have the option of continuing on toward the master’s degree and all your hours count toward the master’s degree. More information on the new Certificate is here:

About the Certificate

The purpose of the Graduate Certificate in Instructional Design and Development is to provide practical education to professionals who want to design instructional materials. This could include those in business and industry, non-profits, health care, the military, or governmental organizations. The job demand for instructional designers has been growing consistently (3.5%) since 2004, and is projected to grow by another 36,500 jobs by 2018 (via

Persons completing this post-baccalaureate certificate will be able to:

  • Identify and analyze instructional and performance problem in the workplace
  • Design effective instructional interventions
  • Develop interactive learning environments for live instruction, print, and online formats
  • Evaluate instruction in terms organizational effectiveness and return on investment

 Graduate students participating in the Master of Science or Doctor of Education in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership programs may choose to include this certificate within their studies.
